Our Story

Global educators Meredith J. Harbord EdD and Sara Riaz Khan FRSA, use ethical dilemmas and visual thinking tools to enrich and transform curriculum. Driven by an ethical model and innovative strategies that centre students at the heart of learning, their approach encourages critical thinking, creativity and wellbeing. Originally Design teachers at ABA Oman International School in Muscat, Meredith and Sara focused on sustainability, ethical design and global mindedness. Their love of playing with ideas and thinking out of the box to impact student learning, led them to establish Harbord & Khan Educational Consultants.

Harbord & Khan Educational Consultants support schools worldwide through workshops, presentations, publications and tailor made professional development. They develop resources to foster positive school cultures and drive curriculum innovation. Their work draws on decades of international experience, including teaching and leadership roles across IB, PBL, Common Core, and Australian curricula. Harbord & Khan Educational Consultants work with corporate professionals, government departments and cultural organisations. Meredith and Sara’s contributions to global education policy initiatives include reviewing and testing implementing guides for the UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development. They have also  presented and conducted workshops on their Harbord & Khan Visual Thinking Toolsⓒ at UNESCO conferences.

Harbord & Khan have co-authored three education resources: ‘21 Visual Thinking Tools for the Classroom: ‘Developing Real–World Problem Solvers in Grade 5-10’ (Routledge 2025), ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas MYP 1, 2 & 3’ and ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas 4 & 5’ (Hodder 2020). 

Dr. Meredith Harbord

Meredith Harbord Ed.D, has been an international educator for over 30 years with a particular interest in curriculum. She is an adjunct professor for State University of New York at Buffalo (IGPE), and Core 21 Education Services US. Meredith was originally a secondary art and craft teacher from Melbourne before teaching in Brunei Darussalam, UK and the Sultanate of Oman. Her experience in the International Baccalaureate system furthered her interest in middle years education.

Meredith currently teaches graduate courses on Design Thinking, Maker Spaces and Game based learning together with Ethical Leadership and Navigating Gender in a Global world. Her doctoral dissertation focused on MYP design and through this work an interest developed to embed ethical dilemmas into design curriculum. Her educational philosophy advocates that learning experiences should be fun.

Sara Riaz Khan

Sara Riaz Khan is an educator and artist; teaching MYP design she was inspired by the idea of ‘responsible’ design and its impact on student learning and also established the MYP Environmental Society. Sara’s interest in creative ways of thinking inspires her passion in making connections between curriculum and real world issues. Through this interest, she has developed a number of graphic devices to facilitate critical and creative thinking. As an arts educator, Sara has taught MYP art, been an artist-in-residence and held student workshops supporting diversity. Sara has exhibited internationally since 2004, focusing on our connection to nature, a common humanity and sustainability. She has developed community art projects as well as supported hospital outreach and disaster relief and literacy initiatives.

We love to work with people in sustainability, biomimicry, diversity practices or any other ethical practices and design from an educational perspective.
