Our Story

Meredith and Sara taught design at ABA Oman International School in Muscat, with a focus on sustainability, ethical design and global mindedness; from this teaching collaboration they established Harbord & Khan Educational Consultants. Over the past few years they have presented at international conferences, written articles and collaborated with schools for workshops and curriculum development. One area of speciality is promoting the mission, vision and values within the school curriculum and fostering a supportive school culture for all stakeholders. They are also available to work with government departments and corporate professionals aligning personal and professional ethics to create a positive organisational culture. Their publications include ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas MYP 1, 2 & 3’ and  ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas 4 & 5’ (2020).

Dr. Meredith Harbord

Meredith Harbord Ed.D, has been an international educator for over 30 years with a particular interest in curriculum. She is an adjunct professor for State University of New York at Buffalo (IGPE), and Core 21 Education Services US. Meredith was originally a secondary art and craft teacher from Melbourne before teaching in Brunei Darussalam, UK and the Sultanate of Oman. Her experience in the International Baccalaureate system furthered her interest in middle years education.

Meredith currently teaches graduate courses on Design Thinking, Maker Spaces and Game based learning together with Ethical Leadership and Navigating Gender in a Global world. Her doctoral dissertation focused on MYP design and through this work an interest developed to embed ethical dilemmas into design curriculum. Her educational philosophy advocates that learning experiences should be fun.

Sara Riaz Khan

Sara Riaz Khan is an educator and artist; teaching MYP design she was inspired by the idea of ‘responsible’ design and its impact on student learning and also established the MYP Environmental Society. Sara’s interest in creative ways of thinking inspires her passion in making connections between curriculum and real world issues. Through this interest, she has developed a number of graphic devices to facilitate critical and creative thinking. As an arts educator, Sara has taught MYP art, been an artist-in-residence and held student workshops supporting diversity. Sara has exhibited internationally since 2004, focusing on our connection to nature, a common humanity and sustainability. She has developed community art projects as well as supported hospital outreach and disaster relief and literacy initiatives.

We chose to use my artwork for our covers because the intention behind the work is primarily to connect people to themselves, each other and to the environment.
